Tournament Rules
All games will be played according to FIBA rules unless the organizing committee makes any rule changes during the weekend to ensure smooth tournament operations.
Players are allowed to play/register for only one team.
Over 40's Men: Participants must be at least 40 years of age in the year of the tournament.
Over 40's Ladies: Participants must be at least 40 years of age and two underage players are permitted, providing that they are at least 35 in the year of the tournament.
Over 50's Men: Participants must be at least 50 years of age, and two players who turn 49 in 2024 are allowed.
Over 50's Women: Participants must be at least 50 years of age, and two players who turn 49 in 2024 are allowed.
Over 60's Men: Participants must be at least 60 years of age, and two players who turn 59 in 2024 are allowed.
Over 60's Women: Participants must be at least 60 years of age, and two players who turn 59 in 2024 are allowed.
All players must provide their date of birth as proof of age, as it may be requested by another team. The use of underage players will result in immediate disqualification.
It is expected that all players conduct themselves in the spirit of Masters basketball. We will not tolerate any abuse of referees or board officials. Such actions will result in immediate player or team disqualification from the tournament.
All games must start at the allocated times. Failure by a team to play on time may result in the opposing team being awarded the game with a scoreline of 20-0.
Each game consists of 4 eight-minute quarters. The clock will run continuously except during the last two minutes of the 2nd and 4th quarters, where it will be stopclock.
Each team is allowed two timeouts per game, 1 in the first half and 1 in the second half.
Players will be disqualified from the game after committing four personal fouls.
Teams will enter a foul trouble situation after committing their fifth team foul.
In the event of a tie, the five members of each team on the court at that time will each take a free throw. The team with the most successful free throws wins. If it remains tied, sudden death will determine the winner, with the same players involved.
There will be a 1-minute break between the first & second quarters and the third & fourth quarters. Halftime will be 2-minutes. Games will start on the hour, so warm-up time will depend on availability.
In case of two teams having the same number of points at the end of the tournament, the first tiebreaker is the head-to-head results. If two teams are tied and play each other during the tournament, the team that wins will be ranked higher. If the tied teams did not play each other in the tournament, or if there are more than two teams tied, the secondary tiebreaker will be point differential.
All other rulings will be determined by the committee.
